win32diskimager vs universal usb installer

Everyone kept saying to use the Win32 Disk Imager or Universal USB Installer, neither of which did what I wanted it to do. I went through the installation process again, analyzing each step. One of the things I noticed was that at the grub loader part of the installation, it kept saying that it recognized my first hard drive as Windows Vista (it was a Windows 7 install). Then I thought, what if I remove my laptop hard drive completely and ran the installation again, what would happen.

So, I removed my internal hard drive and booted off of the DVD again and proceeded with the install. Kali Linux recognized that it was the only OS on the system. I continued with the installation and got to the part where it installs the grub loader. I selected the thumb drive I was installing Kali Linux to since this was the only OS being used. I then rebooted the laptop and booted from the USB drive. While this was exciting, I still wasn’t in the clear yet.

I had to make sure it would still work when I put my Windows 7 hard drive back in the laptop. Once I did that, I booted into the USB drive again and it worked. I then shut down the laptop, removed the USB drive and booted into Windows 7 normally. #WIN32DISKIMAGER VS UNIVERSAL USB INSTALLER WINDOWS 7# I shut down again, inserted the thumb drive and turned the laptop on again and booted into Kali Linux. There were no errors and the Windows OS still worked. While booted into the USB drive and logged into Kali Linux, I executed an apt-update and then an apt-upgrade. The apt-upgrade successfully upgraded all of the software without running out of space and when checking the storage capability, I saw that Kali Linux was installed just like it would have been had I installed it to my local hard drive.
